In a 2009 MSN.com survey of adult shopping and buying habits, adults were asked this simple question:  

"When you shop, what do you use?"

"5% use checks, 9% use cash, 29% use their credit cards, and 57% use their debit cards!"

Adults were asked; "What cards are used most often?"  

45% use Visa,  40% use MasterCard,  9% use Discover,  6% use American Express.

According to a new Visa-sponsored Survey of 1,154 credit cardholders, more than half, 55% of those who responded use their credit cards for small ticket items that value less than $25.00.  These consumers cited several reasons for this shift.   86% of all cardholders are turning to cards for everyday purchases for the "convenience", "ease of use" 62%, "speed" 45%, and "expense management" 35%.
